Overworked, Overcommitted, Overwhelmed?
Throughout her career, all the way to the Board Room, Pattye Moore has been asked many times “How did you do it all?” “All” meaning, how do you continue to find success in the predominately male-centered restaurant industry? How did you rise through the ranks from the marketing department to becoming President of the $3 billion Sonic Drive-In Restaurants brand? How did you become Chairman of the Board for the dining restaurant chain Red Robin Gourmet Burgers while also serving on the boards of the successful convenience store chain QuikTrip (consistently listed among Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For) and the Fortune 200 company ONEOK, a diversified energy company and one of the largest natural gas distributors in the United States? Oh, and at the same time, how did you raise children as a young single mom, find happiness again in marriage, take care of elderly parents, and now make time for your young grandchildren, write a book and speak to organizations across the country, all while growing your career?
Well, one thing is for sure. Never once has Pattye answered that question by saying, “Oh, it was easy.” In fact, most of the time, Pattye surprises people by admitting, “I did it by making many mistakes along the way.” What Pattye learned from those mistakes, however, are the important lessons.
In this session, Pattye very candidly opens up to the audience on the issues that she, like most of us, face in our efforts to achieve our goals while having a work-life balance that makes sense for us. Through moving and powerful stories of personal triumph and failure, Pattye shares how she learned to harness the advantages (and disadvantages!) of being a female leader. Most importantly, though, she will remind the audience of business instincts that need to be nurtured and developed to strengthen leadership skills, whether you are male or female. Ms. Moore will encourage session attendees to develop and nurture instincts and will offer practical tips on how to do so.
Some of the “instincts” Pattye believes are key to the success that has taken her all the way to the Board room include:
Instinct: Put down your fingers and listen
Instinct: Be seen, be heard and be approachable
Instinct: Find your voice and never take it for granted
Instinct: Make your personal life a priority
